Manage Your Time and Alleviate Stress

Wasting time, by putting off until tomorrow what you don’t want to do today, is an easy practice to adopt. The very thought of dealing with certain situations is repulsive, so why not leave it until tomorrow? This attitude only delays the confrontation, which plays on one’s mind until the inevitable situation is faced. This attitude will needlessly spread a few anxious moments over a couple of days, and if the practice becomes a habit, the result will most likely be recurrent bouts of anxiety.

Anxiety ProcrastinationIt is extremely easy to allow procrastination to become an ongoing event, and unfortunately the person concerned, is not aware of the danger this practice poses to his mental health. By procrastinating, a person is actually creating a state of anxiety by allowing his mind to dwell on a situation for a time, rather than deal with the matter immediately.

Once this manner of postponing things for another day becomes common practice, the habit is extremely hard to break, and depending on one’s mental state, professional therapy may be needed. At the very least, the situation must be discussed with family, friends or a community group.

Group therapy is generally the most rewarding, as it allows the sufferer to exchange ideas with people that are recovering from the same condition, the symptoms of procrastination will be discussed openly, to enable the sufferer to realize the extent of his condition. Various procedures will be presented that will allow a patient to gradually overcome his bad habits, and to perform daily tasks in an orderly fashion. Monumental tasks can be broken up into small segments that a patient can tackle, and accomplish successfully.

Verbal commitments can be exchanged by group members, to set deadlines for tasks that they have undertaken. This will determine any progress that they have made in improving their time management skills. By allowing others to become involved in their personal efforts, they are helping each other to set deadlines and evaluate any progress. This will also create a commitment to fulfill the expectations they have set for one another.

Always claim a reward when a certain task is completed within the designated time frame. This practice gives one an incentive to proceed, strive to accomplish the next days task and earn another reward.

By making a commitment to break the habit of procrastination, an anxiety sufferer will soon be well on his way to being able to successfully manage his time and find himself enjoying life once again.

Everyone Will Suffer An Anxiety Bout

Anxiety is much more prevalent than most people realize. Every person will experience a bout of anxiety at least once in their lifetime. Often, anxiety is experienced by children at an early age. Being separated from the mother during infancy, early childhood illnesses or a medical procedure, first day at kindergarten or school, are just a few of the dilemmas that face children during the early stages of their lives.

Exams during the various levels of their education, are just one example of incidents that can cause certain students to become anxious. The Anxiety Disorders Association of America, reports that about 40 million people over the age of eighteen, suffer from one or more forms of anxiety. People who suffer from anxiety disorders, are about four times more likely to seek medical attention, and about six times more likely to need hospital care for a mental health disorder, than people who are not suffering from an anxiety condition. The condition costs the American taxpayer a staggering $42 billion per annum.

Although medical science has produced some very effective treatments to relieve the symptoms of Anxiety, as yet there is no permanent cure for the disorder. Even the cause has not been positively identified, although there is some evidence that the disorder may be a neurological problem that is handed down genetically. Findings have shown that constant exposure to a stressful situation will produce bouts of anxiety, however this is not really the cause of the condition.

Suffering from an anxiety disorder is not a pleasant experience for the patient or the people around him. Friends and family members are often called on to support and comfort a patient, this in itself can produce stressful situations that must be adequately controlled. Certain people may suffer from symptoms that are so severe, that they withdraw completely and become housebound, rather than risk the embarrassment of becoming distressed in public.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about eighteen percent of adult Americans suffer from one or more forms of anxiety. One of the most disturbing aspects about anxiety is that if the disorder is left untreated, the sufferer faces an increased risk of attempting to commit suicide. About ninety percent of all suicide victims in America, were previously diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. More than twice as many women attempt suicide than men, but four times as many men actually succeed in killing themselves.

Any person, who is occasionally dwelling on thoughts of suicide, should seek professional help at the first opportunity.
