Mental Or Emotional Anxiety

Posted by Oze Parrot on 31st May 2008

Generally, people think of anxiety as a condition that is preempted by an identifiable fear or circumstance. This is not always the case, as anxiety can become a constant state of mind that persists, no matter what measures you may take to alleviate the problem. In other words, there may not be any apparent physical symptoms. Professionals describe this type of problem as, generalized anxiety disorder.

Emotional AnxietyDiagnosing generalized anxiety can be a lengthy and difficult procedure, mainly because the condition has no specific cause. Constant worry is depressing and can affect a person mentally and physically, often resulting in a generalized anxiety disorder. This type of problem must be diagnosed at the earliest possible stage, in order to bring the condition under control, before it can permanently affect a person’s mental health. Being able to live happily and lead a productive life can become impossible, as the affect of constant bouts of needless anxiety gradually takes it’s toll on one’s mental health.

When affected people are constantly living in an anxious state of mind it can actually make them feel as if they are losing control emotionally and mentally. Unfortunately, there are those who are completely unaware of the fact that they are suffering from a type of disorder, which may eventually disable them. These people need support from their family or friends, and a trusted confidant needs to discuss the situation with them, in order to coax them into seeking professional medical attention.

Fortunately, modern therapy and medications are readily available to sufferers of anxiety disorders, and in the majority of cases, treatment allows affected persons to alleviate their anxiety and lead a normal life. There are many support groups that are either run by public or private communities in every major city, to help anxiety sufferers cope with the condition.

Anxiety disorder may be a permanent affliction, however with early diagnosis and proper medical treatment, sufferers can deal with their problem and lead a normal, healthy life, without outwardly displaying any signs of their condition.

Anxiety Is More Than Being Out Of Sorts

Posted by Oze Parrot on 26th May 2008

There is quite a number of symptoms that are attributed to an anxiety disorder, and probably the worst one is living with the fear that a panic attack may strike when visiting a public place. It’s extremely difficult to cope with the physical torment that occurs during a full blown panic attack. The nervous trembling, sweating, dizziness and fear, together with the feeling of being unable to breath properly, the palpitations and the feeling of eminent doom.

Anxious GirlMany people often wonder if they have an anxiety disorder. Well, there are various physical signs that will occur regularly that need to be closely monitored. A pessimistic outlook can signal that there is a deep rooted sense of depression present. This is a type of anxiety disorder. Constantly reliving past failures instead of looking forward to future successes is a positive sign of anxiety. The most difficult part of dealing with anxiety is being able to recognize stressful situations, which should be avoided, and problems that crop up as a part of everyday life. Actually, dwelling on the possibilities of becoming panic stricken can precipitate an anxiety bout.

Everybody experiences an anxiety bout at least once in their lifetime, and our bodies are well equipped to deal with occasional stress related anxiety. An anxiety disorder is brought about by a person being repeatedly exposed to stressful situations, and that is the difference between experiencing an anxious moment, which is caused by an everyday event, and readily overcome. There are three important facts to know about anxiety. Firstly, it’s only a problem if an attack lasts for an extended period and repeatedly occurs. Secondly, a disorder can be progressively debilitating and cause a phobia. Thirdly, an anxiety disorder involves having intense attacks that occur for no apparent reason.

Anxious moments are normal, everyone has them. Kids get anxious before a school exam, people may get anxious when they have to appear in public or are worried about a task that they have to perform. The difference between this kind of anxiety and an anxiety disorder is that the condition does not persist and is soon forgotten. A bout of anxiety can occur by thinking of performing a task and imaging an embarrassing mishap. Should you become anxious for no apparent reason, or feel anxious long before or after a particular event, then possibly you have an anxiety disorder.

Children Suffering From Anxiety

Posted by admin on 22nd May 2008

Children, are confronted with numerous stressful situations that begin shortly after birth. Many of these children carry the consequences of constantly being stressed right throughout their lives. Stressful situations lead to bouts of anxiety, and being repeatedly stressed leads to an anxiety disorder.

Featured Page: Anxiety Guide

Child AnxietyInfants do have things to be concerned about, and minor mishaps that adults may find amusing, can cause little ones to become extremely agitated. It is important that carers identify the causes of any discomfort, and take steps to avoid situations that the child may find distressing. Parents should be aware of the fact that a child, who is repeatedly exposed to stress, can develop a deep rooted type of anxiety, which may become a permanent affliction.

The human body is well equipped to deal with occasional exposure to stressful situations that are a part of every day life, however constant exposure to stress can cause various types of mental anxiety, which will need professional medical treatment. Normally, a child will go through several phases, or behavior patterns that will cease in time without any serious repercussions. Children generally suffer from separation anxiety, a fear of imaginary monsters or the performance of certain tasks, and these fears are very real to the children involved. In most cases, these fears are all part of growing up, and will eventually be forgotten.

The Anxiety Disorders Association of America, has found that many children have been diagnosed with nearly every type of known anxiety. In some cases, children and young adolescents, have been found to be suffering from more than one type of anxiety. Unfortunately, if anxiety disorders in children are not diagnosed at an early stage, then these young people are prone to many other social problems such as, failing school exams, falling into bad company and ultimately, destroying their chances of becoming successful and responsible members of the community.

Parents, and other adults, need to be aware of any warning signs that may indicate a developing state of anxiety in the children they care for. When anxiety conditions are present in children, the fears that appear to be phases will remain, and these children are prone to suffer from depression or panic attacks. They may also isolate themselves from others and go out of their way to avoid situations where they may feel vulnerable.

Should parents suspect that their children may be developing an anxiety disorder, they must seek professional advice to have their concerns correctly assessed. Addressing anxiety in children at the earliest possible stage, can prevent the development of other problems, and help them to grow up to be healthy and happy members of the community.

Domestic Violence

Posted by admin on 21st May 2008

This is a letter to the editor of my local paper that wasn’t published. Slightly modified to be more global.
“Hurry up, you fat f***ing bitch,” said the young man. His companion mewed obediently and walked faster. Another woman in a trendy outfit said nothing. We were strangers walking along a sidewalk and I didn’t confront [...]

Paranoia is Everywhere

Posted by admin on 21st May 2008

Fear of what others may be thinking of us is common, but exaggerated fears are more common than previously thought. Most research into paranoia (defined as “unfounded mistrust”) involves psychosis and schizophrenia, although it’s been estimated 10-15% of the population suffer such fears. New research finds that lesser degrees affect many more.
Researcher Daniel Freeman at [...]

I’ve blogged about it before, but…I love TED. Brilliant minds giving brilliant speeches on film. Lots of science in the mix. I rarely get time to actually watch complete presentations, but even glimpses enrich my week. And a salute to…
