How Can You Get Better Search Rankings

Just about every marketer on the planet would like better search rankings and there are many people with different trains of thought that strive to optimize their web pages in order to get better search results. Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the process of increasing the search rankings of a web site or sales page. There are an enormous number of searches carried out online at any given time, as people search for information on all kinds of things including health matters, relationship problems, legal advice and how to run an online business, amongst a myriad of other subjects.

In order to conduct a search, people enter a subject line or a question into the search engine, which returns a number of web sites containing articles, information or products relating to the desired subject. The words used for searching for an item are called keywords or key phrases, and a marketers goal is to pick the words that are most likely to be used by people that are searching for the product or service that he is promoting. He must then optimize his sales page by using these words in his promotional text, in order to rank well in the search engines for the words that relate to his product.

Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as it seems to get listed on the front page of the major search engines, as they each have different methods of assessing the qualities of a web site, which means that the webmaster must compromise to a certain extent, and optimize his web page to suit only the major search engines.

One of the most important things to do is choose a domain name that relates to your product or service and contains some of your main keywords. This will also be the title of your web page, which should also contain other important keywords or a keyword phrase that will let your visitors see straight away what your site is all about.

Try and look at it this way when you are writing your title, when a visitor clicks on a link and is taken to your web page he will spend about three seconds looking at the site before deciding if it is worth looking at or to click away. So, you have to show your visitor what your site is all about in three seconds, through the title on your page, which is the first thing that he will look at.

You should also write a concise description of your site and place it in a meta tag, with keywords and the sites rating in separate meta tags. These tags are designed to let the search blots know what is in the content of the site.

Your content should comprise of original sales material or informative articles that are of good quality and will give your visitors some useful information about the object of their search. The articles should contain a sprinkling of keywords that blend in naturally with the text and are easy to read. If your content is good and revolves around your keywords, then you will impress your visitors and get noticed by the search engines.

It is imperative for any dedicated marketer to get his sales pages on top of the rankings, as this will give him a continuous flow of free traffic that will generate a steady income and expand his business. Of course there are a lot of other steps that can be taken to help get sites ranked on the first page of the search engines and keep them there, but search engine optimization begins with a relevant domain name, a well thought out title and original content.
